The Cross of Christ, for me, is:

  • Icon, not an idol
  • Image for what it represents, yet more than a symbol
  • Object, but not for my adornment
  • Reminder, but not a religious relic
  • Sign that “God’s Got It” when I don’t
  • Substitution & Sacrifice that is intimately personal
  • Focal Point in my struggle with hardship and strife
  • Target toward which to aim true
  • Goal to one day achieve
  • Example to emulate
  • Measuring Stick by which to compare
  • Identity for my soul
  • Hand-hold that is secure when I’m greatly challenged
  • Karabiner to trust with my full weight, when I’m at uncomfortable heights
  • Hope in darkness & despair
  • Grace beyond all expectation
  • Mercy where there is none to be found
  • Forgiveness, unbelievable and unachievable
  • Love that is unconditional
  • Justice for everything evil
  • Equal Plain for myself and everyone who approaches God
  • Power & Authority over Death
  • Power & Authority over Life

I wasn’t there when they crucified my Lord, yet in it all… I was.

But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. ~ Galatians 6:14
