When moored to the buoy, the boat is held up. Even in the wind and waves of a treacherous storm, its place is secure. So the disciple and the Heart of Jesus, whose yoke is easy and burden light, even when Life threatens.

However, Life with Jesus does not mean all will be easy and light, nor will it mean absence of suffering. Rather, such life is to be freed of the imposed restrictive and heavy weights of religious obligation. At the same time it is to be moored to the Rabbi with willing, passionate obedience.

Life’s storms do come. When storm winds blow, bringing with it darkness, doubts, despair and weariness in staying afloat, the welcoming heart of Jesus – gentle and humble – keeps us in place above the breaking waves until it subsides.

We have His Heart as a buoy. When tossed by the Tempest, we have no fear, for we are continually moored to Him. He will not weigh us down to the depths or let us go adrift. His heart has us.

How secure is your mooring?

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. ~ Matthew 11:28-29 ESV
