The Cross of Christ, for me, is:
- Icon, not an idol
- Image for what it represents, yet more than a symbol
- Object, but not for my adornment
- Reminder, but not a religious relic
- Sign that “God’s Got It” when I don’t
- Substitution & Sacrifice that is intimately personal
- Focal Point in my struggle with hardship and strife
- Target toward which to aim true
- Goal to one day achieve
- Example to emulate
- Measuring Stick by which to compare
- Identity for my soul
- Hand-hold that is secure when I’m greatly challenged
- Karabiner to trust with my full weight, when I’m at uncomfortable heights
- Hope in darkness & despair
- Grace beyond all expectation
- Mercy where there is none to be found
- Forgiveness, unbelievable and unachievable
- Love that is unconditional
- Justice for everything evil
- Equal Plain for myself and everyone who approaches God
- Power & Authority over Death
- Power & Authority over Life
I wasn’t there when they crucified my Lord, yet in it all… I was.
