Entering or Encountering Darkness

What do you do when you are facing an overwhelming threat? What do you do when the darkness ahead of you looms darker than the light behind you? Run? Stay and Fight? Which?

What do you do when pure evil awaits for you? It hides in the unknown ready to consume you as prey, while you are spiritually compelled to go engage the Enemy? Do you Freeze?

Run, Fight or Freeze? In his exile out of Egypt Moses had his own run, fight or freeze moment with the people he was leading. (Exodus 14). Having escaped the land of darkness and bondage to slavery into the wilderness, now the darkness and overwhelming threat was coming to them. With their backs against the sea, darkness looming large, and nowhere to escape, what were they to do?

Here’s what to do. Moses gave the people solid instructions then, that can still speak to us now, when we face an overwhelming threat (Exodus 14:13-14).

  • 3 Things:
    • Fear Not
    • Stand Firm
    • See (the Salvation of the Lord)

Why? The Lord will fight for you

  • 1 Thing:
    • Be silent
    • But, NOT passively!
  • Ephesians 6:13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.
  • 1 Corinthians 16:13 Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.

After A Close Encounter With Pure Evil Or Darkness

How do you feel? (Like Elijah – 1 Kings 19)

  • Sober
    • Like you’re suddenly in touch with reality, and everything prior was just fantasy
    • Like you underestimated it’s power, while relieved that you were spared it’s influence
  • Sad
    • Like all that could have been/should have been, has been lostLike all the collateral damage means such waste, and all that is left is you… alone
  • Spent
    • Like you’re drained, tapped out, toast
    • Like you’re rattled, shaky in strength

Before A Final Conclusion From Those Feelings
Remember what truths you already know by faith!

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us [you] from the love of God
in Christ Jesus our Lord.
